SCHOOL SOCCER
This year Mount Seskin CC have had two boys’ teams U 17 and U 19 competing in three competitions since October up until the present. Training has been taking place most Wednesdays after school conducted by Mr. Walsh and Mr. Wilhare. At under 17 level we have played both league and cup games at home and away against schools such as Killinarden CS and Coláiste Cillian Clondalkin.
At under 19 level we have played games away and at home against Killinarden CS against Patrick’s Cathedral School and St. Kevin’s Community College Clondalkin. We have suffered a few narrow defeats and have a couple of very good victories.
We have qualified to play in the U19 Leinster Shield final which will take place after the mocks.
There are boys from 3rd 5th and 6th year involved in the soccer panels and all boys have played their part when called upon. The behavior and the attitude from the boys has been excellent and a credit to the school and their families. The sixth-year students involved have shown great leadership and set a great example for the younger students. This group includes Cameron Griffiths, Noah Bradley, Quedesh Diba, Larry Adamu, Kian Kielthy, Alex Fegan and Scott Brown.
There has been a long tradition of soccer in Mount Seskin Community College and next year we hope to have a U 15 boys’ team as well giving boys from 1st and 2nd year an opportunity to play.
CHESS
Chess at Mount Seskin Community College.
Chess is one of the many clubs which we have at our school. It is thriving and its roots are deep in the history of our college.
On any given Friday, at lunchtime, during the academic year, up to eighteen students and their teachers can be found poring over moves on chess boards.
The participants, boys and girls, from 1st to 6th years, play a game of chess without any thought of age, gender or any other perceived barrier, in one of the most levelling of sports.
Former teacher, school chaplain and year head, Sr. Mairéad Hughes along with parent Dave Clancy founded the club in the early 1990’s.
The school soon had teams in local, Dublin, Leinster and All Ireland Competitions. Students at the school were involved in Jobstown Chess Teams that were successful at Community Games as well as at all levels in national competition as well as at numerous tournaments.
Because of team and individual success our chess players have had other important achievements such as representing their province; travelling abroad; gaining scholarships and places in third level education.
In recent years, our school based club has been one of the most successful participants at the annual Junior Certificate Schools’ Programme Tournaments – Winning the competition twice and in top placed positions for each of the years in question.
In addition, the club runs an annual league and championship; hosts schools for tournaments; attends tournaments and organises outings.
It is open to everyone - The experienced player and any student who would wish to take up or simply try out the game.
