TY Theatre & Backstage experience

15-January-25
TY Theatre & Backstage experience

On Tuesday 14th January our TY students attended a performance of Paddy: The Life & Times of Paddy Armstrong, by Mary-Elaine Tynan, Don Wycherley & Niamh Gleeson as part of both their History and Library Studies programme.

The one-man play is inspired by Paddy Armstrong’s memoir Life After Life, a Guildford Four Memoir, starring Don Wycherley in the title role.

Told from the perspective Paddy narrating his own life, the play explores Paddy Armstrong’s experiences as a boy growing up in Belfast through his time in London until his arrest and incarceration for the Guildford pub bombing, his release, all the way up to the current day. Full of music, heart, and chaos, our students fully enjoyed the experience.

They were also lucky enough to meet the performer Don Wycherley after the play, and had the opportunity questions about acting, about how the play was created and about life as a performer. Our students were very grateful for the opportunity to talk with Don, which will hopefully inspire many of them in their own creative endeavours in the future.
